MANUFACTURERS RESPOND TO RES LAMP SPEC
CEE, March 24, 2015
Program administrators recognize that residential lighting plays a significant role in efficiency portfolios. Based on a thorough market assessment, the CEESM Residential Lighting Initiative, launched on January 15, identifies approaches that address rising baselines, increasing savings targets, and the emergence of a wide variety of new techonologies. New lighting technologies are developing rapidly, and there are lighting products offering savings at a range of retail price points.
As a result, the central component of the revised Initiative is a tiered specification for replacement lamps sold at retail. It focuses on efficacy and quality metrics to identify the highest performing ENERGY STAR® lamps. In establishing the specification, committee members kept a focus on enabling greater energy savings and improving the consumer experience.
Manufacturers have responded positively since the spec was launched in January. CEE is greatly encouraged by the number of manufacturers designing high performing integral replacement lamps. The February qualifying product list shows 2,413 tier 1 products, 874 tier 2 products, and 171 tier 3 products. These products represent a total of 214 brands!
